A One-Year Epidemiological Perspective of Molar Pregnancies at Orotta Maternity Referral Hospital: Asmara, Eritrea

Gestational trophoblastic diseases (GTD) are a group of originating from the placenta, with significant morbidity and mortality, especially in developing countries. A one-year prospective study on GTD was done to determine incidence identify risk factors; explain clinical presentation; describe management; record outcomes at Orotta Maternity Referral Hospital (OMRH) Asmara, Eritrea; protocol for prepared involvement colleagues. All collected data reviewed finalized by author. Statistical analysis using Package Social Sciences (SPSS). During period total 6845 deliveries 45 cases were recorded OMRH. This gives an 6.6 per 1000 deliveries. Primgravid mothers more affected. The majority complete molar pregnancy (87%) vaginal bleeding main presentation. Pregnancy test result read as negative 7% cases. Of followed, 77.7% recovered while 11.1% required chemotherapy because persistent disease 8.9% lost follow up. confirms higher incidence, Eritrea compared results some African need strengthen histological services quantitative serum tests identified crucial effective management standard systematic approach diagnosis, treatment strict fellow-up is better outcome.
